Lough Leane

"Lough Leane" means the Lake of Learning, a four-mile lake dotted with 30 small islands.  The name comes from the famous Abbey at Inisfallen that has occupied the center of the Lake since the seventh century.    Ross Castle sits at one edge of the lake, and Inisfallen is on an island in its midst.  The green hills of Killarney rise green and mist-covered all about, giving this location a mystical and haunting aspect that is difficult to forget.
