Western Ireland Tour, Day 1: into Galway
After Kilrush (and a fabulous open-air lunch at Lahinch), our next stop was the awesome and unforgettable Cliffs of Moher. These stark cliffs range for roughly five miles along the western edge of Co. Clare, reaching heights of 600 feet. The sheer drop into the Atlantic below is a staggering sight, as is the view westward towards the Aran Islands and, beyond, the seemingly endless Atlantic. One has the sense of being, quite literally, on the edge of the world. Though Professor Conner got a bit nervous as students edged out for the view, we all agreed that the Cliffs are one of the great sights of Ireland.
